The City That Never Sleeps

I've chosen to document my last 22 minutes till time hits 6 through words and hence this entry. Have 2 consultations again at Unity Secondary tomorrow morning and then farewell lunch with supervisors. Thank god it begins at 8.15am and not 7.45am like today! Cab ride to 20 Choa Chu Kang Street 62 was SGD 17. Also thank god, no normal academic class tomorrow. I really don't want to be pissed off on my last day of work.

This 3 months minus my leave and MC days, which actually amounts to a good 3 weeks, has definitely been a ride. I gathered today that I have the opportunity to earn at least 3k, if I were to join back as a part time trainer sacrificing my mornings only. Thanks to my CSWA certification. Certified SolidWorks Associate is what I have earned for myself after 2 shots at it. Was definitely and uphill task motivating myself back to continue this track and finish this internship up to my best. I've learnt alot through this. Been exposed to many things even engineering faculty has failed to teach me over the 3 years. Had wonderful people as supervisors. An environment without stifling amount of pressure. The kind which is just right to share a quick joke and get back to work. Lunches with even big boss joining us at Ayer Rajah and MACS. Coffee breaks at 4.30. Having only heard about internships done in laboratories, experience with 3D ClassWorks was really something new for me. Apart from modelling in office, rendering objects for YOG, creating TVnima videos, consultation sessions in schools albeit very tiring were fun coz I had more time to interact with the trainer for the day and learn something new about them. Chevy was asking me yesterday how I felt about this internship as a whole and my immediate reply was I'm not a desk bound person coz I aspire to do freelance someday, so this internship just gave me the right mix. Who would have thought working with something so engineering like SolidWorks would give me some a balance. I guess if I were to have joined SEACAD, I would be in for a totally different ball of game. SEACAD is a competitor of 3D ClassWorks by the way. They concentrate mainly on selling the product while we touch on the education side of the product and market to schools and institutions specifically.

Among the four supervisors, Kunhi aka big boss, Chevy, Indra aka joker and Wanyun, Chevy indeed has been the most amazing. More importantly, inspiring. You would hardly see him ever not doing something or brainstorming an idea aloud. Very ambitious having been in this field ever since he graduated from Mech Eng in 2004. Afternoons that he is in office, the laser cutter machine would be running and he would be experimenting with his 'toy'. Thinking of new ideas how to improve the programme designed for secondary level. How best the yo-yo's modelled by them can be cut. One scene which was a big inspiration and I will always remember is one afternoon he was sitting at his desk peeling the layers of plastic, layer by layer, to remove the unwanted stuff. It was such a mundane job which easily takes 2 hours to finish. At that point, I thought he could have so easily gotten any of us, interns, to do it while he carries on playing with his 'toy' or clearing his overflowing email inbox. Someone as high flying as him can still do such a mundane and menial task in my opinion. The scene really moved me and I saw him differently since then. I hope some of that humbleness rubs of to me no matter how high I soar in the years ahead. I also want his zest to learn and discover knew things. His passion for what he does and believes in. His overseas trips which are sometimes spent only in conference room and hotel room. He went to Phuket just after I got back on Wednesday and did nothing but work there. I guess his hard work has really paid off which warrants where he is right now. Chevy, you are my character referee but I can speak volumes about yours. Kudos to you! I will always wish you the very best with the company. Continue imagineering beyond boundaries and empowering possibilities!

The only thing I won't miss about internship is the waking up at 8.30. haha. But again, reality will set in harder come Monday. Till then, farewell to Sci park and PGP cafe. Most importantly, my desk which has become quite cosy with my occupance.

With that, it's 6.10pm. I shall take my leave.
