Sumiko Tan's article about how the definition of what it means to be successful changes as you age proves to be very relevant. When you in the midst of getting your degree, you think being successful is getting a good degree obviously first class honors and getting a well paying job and settling down with the one whom you have planned to be with in health and sickness. But a few years later, you begin to think success is measured by the paycheck you receive and you begin competing with the peers who graduated from the same course or maybe field to see how better you can do to climb the corporate ladder. People like her well in the 40s, still single, vision success solely by how well you do in your career since the family part of success didn't really work out as plan. I guess our definitions and parameters often change with our short term plans and goals in mind. The general consensus as to how society visions these terms become subjective and very much dependent on each individual. Even right now, the problems we handle being at the same age are sometimes are so different. How things play out to be sometimes make me wonder if certain things happen to certain people for reasons. I always think that things be it good or bad happen to one to prepare them for whats coming ahead. Its like all those little experiences prepare you for the happenings of the near future. So let's take it all in our stride and make the best of what we can do. We just have the climb the inner Mt. Everest's within us and soon we will be amazed at how far we can go.
