The City That Never Sleeps

I'm an undergraduate in my third year from Faculty of Engineering, NUS. I'm sure all of you, who know that Singapore is more than a red dot, would know what NUS stands for. Not 'No Use Studying' by the way. So, I'm not here to be biased and promote the NUS education system versus the other varsity systems available here. I'm just here to make a point that NUS is not any less of an easier varsity to be in and be a degree holder at the end of 3 or 4 years. Having gone for the interview and admission talks of the new, urban, chic school I got a prelude to the education approach they decided to adopt and teaching style. The small student to prof ratio. Seminar style rooms. Lack of typical lecture theaters. Class/group participation being a key component in final module assessment. I got introduced and exposed to that all. In contrast, NUS follows the more typical and structured education route which appeal to the majority of JC students I would say. A standard lecture-tutorial system. Written examinations which constitute of module grade. A small percentage on attendance and class participation, only for selected modules offered in specific faculties that is. But despite all the pros and cons of getting a degree in NUS, the system is not any less competitive and slack. With the cohort of students being humongous, the bell curve hardly or never works to your advantage. Getting the damn 'A' grade is so freaking hard. And chances are definitely less than 5%. So for all those kids who in the midst of accepting university applications, don't accept the seat from NUS if are planning to have a 'Universal Studio Ride'. Just pay SGD 66 for a 1-day pass and get the adrenaline rush. NUS is a far cry for the adrenaline rush you get there. Plus paying almost SGD 20 000 for the 'easy ride' doesn't make sense and hell that is ALOT of money for a thrill. So choose your varsity based on whichever teaching style works for you. If NUS was really that slack, pretty sure NUS Business School wouldn't be Top 25 in the world. So all those people from the elite community, please wake up from your slumber. Cheers!
