No surprises for guessing what was the centre of talk for YouthInk writers in today’s ‘My Life’ section of the Strait Times.Yes, MJ. The king of pop. To me, his death didn’t really impact me much coz I didn’t really idolise him through my growing up years and neither did I tune in to his tracks to learn the definition of pop music. But nevertheless reading about what the young writers had to speak about the King of Pop was a refreshing change. And a particular writer mentioned about how fans still worship these idols amidst all the adultery, drug dealings, multiple affairs, scandals whatnots. Imagine if it were your friends who do all of the above. Would you still mourn their death when they pass on? Would you still regard them for their character and make yourself understand that circumstance pushed them to such a position? Which is why they did what they did. Will we still be do understanding and forgiving when it comes to our loved one who does the same thing? I don’t think so. Humans work in a way we expect a lot from loved ones. We respect idols in another light. We see them through another coloured lens. We give them a lot of credit in a way.
